The link between the number of carbon atoms in a fuel with the amount of energy it releases :: GCSE Chemistry Coursework Investigation
The connection between the quantity of carbon particles in a fuel with the measure of vitality it discharges Alcohols for the most part have a place with exacerbates whose particles depend on chains of carbon molecules. They for the most part contain one oxygen particle, which is joined to a carbon molecule by a solitary bond. This makes them extraordinary to different mixes. The oxygen iota is joined to the hydrogen particle as well as the carbon iota, which makes the oxygen a piece of a hydroxyl gathering. These iotas are commonly a piece of a hydrocarbon chain. These alcohols can remove water from the body, in which a hydrocarbon chain has supplanted a hydrogen iota. Alcohols have a general structure of CnH2n+1OH The point of this examination is to see the connection between the numbers of carbon molecule in a fuel with the measure of vitality it discharges. There would be an adjustment in the measure of vitality emitted that is getting more prominent, the more carbon molecules in the fuel, the more there are more bonds to be broken and framed, in this manner delivering more vitality. ââ¬ËIn a substance response, bonds in the reactant particle are broken and new ones are framed. Iotas are reworked. Vitality must be placed in to break bonds, and vitality is given out when bonds are formed.ââ¬â¢ When the complete vitality put in is more prominent than the vitality put out, the substance chills off (it is endothermic). This is communicated as Þâ⬠+ve (delta positive). On the off chance that the complete vitality put in is not exactly the vitality made, at that point the substance heats up (it is exothermic). This is communicated as Þâ⬠- ve (delta negative). I will research eight distinct alcohols utilizing a liquor or soul burner, to gauge the vitality change during consuming them by estimating the adjustment in temperature of some water held by a compartment. This compartment must have an estimation of explicit warmth limit so I could ascertain heat moved to it too. Likely the most conductive holder accessible for use in the study hall is a calorimeter. Also as not squandering vitality in the warming of the holder, I could likewise attempt to prevent heat from getting away from the top and edges of the compartment by covering it with a fitting top. I will attempt to keep the breeze from blowing the flares to an alternate course so all the windows must be close. Speculation More vitality is discharged as more bonds are framed, beneath is the rundown of rough vitality required to break and structure all bond associated with consuming alcohols Sort OF BOND ENERGY REQUIRED TO BREAK THE BOND (j)

The Private Pension Industry In Ghana Accounting Essay Ghana, a good example as far as monetary and political steadiness has as of late been moved up to a center pay nation following long periods of actualizing sound financial strategy and stable world of politics and with this redesign comes its own difficulties. Ghanas economy is solid and guarantees liberal future development and the requirement for a substantially more extensive government managed savings framework is comprehended to be vital. In 2004, the legislature began an excursion to change the standardized savings/benefits framework and these changes made an open door for the investment of the private segment in annuity conveyance. This proposed field-tested strategies looks to set up a trustee organization, which will give benefits related items to the formal and casual parts of the Ghanaian economy who have generally been avoided from the national annuity framework. The private annuity industry is another and practically undiscovered industry offering a chance to serve a huge extent of Ghanas workforce, as this area of the average workers is key in the achievement of building up an exhaustive benefits framework. This industry is assessed to be esteemed at GHS and will demand of second level and intentional third Tier benefits framework. The national benefits conspire has seen a normal yearly increment in commitment of 10%. The objective market for the proposed business is a youthful grown-up between the ages of 16 and 45 years. The objective market will comprise of youthful experts, independently employed people and the individuals who generally don't approach the national annuity conspire specifically beauticians, mechanics, and so forth. With the developing valuation for making sure about ones future, the objective gathering request fast and proficient administrations, items that meet their current and future needs and an industry that reacts rapidly to their requirements. Right now, there is no current specialist organization in the private annuity industry anyway the life coverage industry is relied upon to lead the way and be the prevailing players in the arrangement of these administrations. The proposed marketable strategy tries to be purchaser center giving amazing client administrations, steady client input and creative and straightforward item structure and use. The upper hand of the proposed business incorporate openness using an exhaustive circulation arrange, fantastic client care and item configuration dependent on need. The proposed business is a private benefits supplier rendering trusteeship, caretaker and store the board administrations. The organization is a constrained obligation organization with a proposed expressed capital of GHS3, 000,000.00. Every one of the entrepreneurs will raise GHS90, 000.00 each and the distinction will be supported utilizing bank credit lines, private speculators and resource financing. Undertaking the proposed field-tested strategy gives the accompanying discoveries: Ghanas economy stays positive and stable giving liberal development now and later on New annuity changes and formation of new industry gives the two dangers and opportunity Immense undiscovered casual market accessible to the new business Current deficiencies in the national benefits will be cooked for by private suppliers Proposed business gives chance to advancement of neighborhood limit in annuity structure and the executives With vigorous administrative framework and compelling vital arranging this propose business has a reasonable possibility of succeeding and developing into a fruitful business and being a piece of the improvement of the private annuity industry in Ghana. 1.0 The Introduction Research Background and Motives Throughout the years concern had been raised about the present condition of the Ghanaian government managed savings framework which has been described by lacking advantages which is incredibly hard to live on if not negligible outlandish. As called attention to by the International Social security Association (2003), Social security frameworks in Africa are typically excessively restrictive and deficient of which Ghana isn't exemption. Like other standardized savings frameworks in Africa, Ghanas government disability framework covers just the proper workforce, which comprises a little portion, for the most part close to 20% of the all out work power. This natural attribute of the government disability framework makes standardized savings selective, as those outside the proper areas don't approach government disability or a national annuity. Moreover because of the generally modest number of supporters of the national government disability plot, benefits under the standardized savings conspire is lacking. Ghana like numerous other African nations has establishments, laws and government structures that were embraced from their pilgrim experts absent a lot of alterations and thought. The institutional structures were frequently intended to meet the objectives and goals of the provincial experts who around then were the tip top. One may ask why standardized savings frameworks that are intended to give insurance to all in the public eye will in general spread just a little part of society. The global government disability affiliation calls attention to that, most standardized savings frameworks like numerous different things were embraced from the pilgrim aces. These standardized savings frameworks were truly proposed to cover a little assemblage of representatives who were at the time working in the pilgrim organization and diggers. This implied all others outside this degree fell outside the standardized savings framework. This innately stayed, as most nations considerably after freedom couldn't devise social security programs that were customized to the requirements and conditions of the individuals. In light of the foundation above, I am inspired through this strategic agreement to feature the significance of the improvement of a genuinely necessary private benefits plan to increase the current national government disability framework and furthermore to give the individuals who are outside the national standardized savings framework a road to make sure about their prospects and have enough to live on when they resign. 1.2 The Motives The thought process in attempted this strategic plan is to overcome any issues made by the present standardized savings structure, which bars those inside the casual area of the Ghanaian economy. Besides, private annuity plans will likewise give additional income to the individuals who have resigned as the present advantages under the national arrangement is woefully insufficient. Toward the finish of this new company proposition I plan to have the option to: Comprehend current monetary and business condition in Ghana Comprehend the structure of Ghanas government disability framework To examine current administrative system set up and its presumable effect on the tasks of the beginning up To break down the improvement of the picked market and industry To decide the basic contributions for the beginning up and future advancement plans To examine any scholastic hypothesis on fruitful business new companies 1.3 The Objective The primary goal of this strategy thesis is to: Recognize assuming any, openings and difficulties for a private annuities organization in Ghana With the open doors I have recognized and challenges review a beginning marketable strategy for a private benefits organization in Ghana Give data on strategy to follow when setting up an organization in Ghana In this review the principle spotlight will be on the organization working in one explicit zone of annuities which is the level three of the benefits demonstration. Long haul techniques may see the organization advance to expand different benefits/investment funds items. 1.4 Research Methodology The point of this review is to assembled a strategy for a beginning up private annuity organization in Ghana dependent on sound research on the topic of private benefits in the picked market and scholarly hypothesis on the standards enterprise and business the executives. The examination along these lines will predominantly be founded on auxiliary information from solid legislative assets and non-administrative offices. I will likewise utilize scholastic articles, diaries and industry reports. 1.5 Structure The review will be part into five (5) sections with subtleties of every section as follows: Section 1: The primary part will have the presentation, which contains the foundation, the intentions and goal, brief research procedure, structure of the review and a near examination of government disability frameworks in the created and immature universes. Section 2: Economic Overview of picked market, history and significance of government managed savings in picked showcase, review of the standardized savings framework once in a while, government managed savings structure, and difficulties confronting the national standardized savings framework Part 3: Description of the business thought, advertising plan/system, valuing, strategic vision, Human Resources. Part 4: Chapter four will be the monetary arrangement. In this area will incorporate budgetary suspicions and monetary projections for the following five years. Part 5: The end, this segment will contain leave procedures and furthermore talk about any prompt or future effect of the proposed business on the Ghanaian economy. This segment will likewise sum up key achievement variables of the proposed business. Part 2 Presentation Under this part I will take a gander at the financial diagram, monetary execution and viewpoint of the picked showcase for the proposed business, I will at that point go further to take a gander at the improvement of government disability/benefits in Ghana, and afterward take a gander at the review of the standardized savings arrangement of the picked advertise, Ghana. 5 Basic Reasons Why You Should Go For Linux
5 Basic Reasons Why You Should Go For Linux Make Money Online Queries? Struggling To Get Traffic To Your Blog? Sign Up On (HBB) Forum Now!5 Basic Reasons Why You Should Go For LinuxUpdated On 31/08/2012Author : John DoeTopic : LinuxShort URL : http://hbb.me/12KKbjL CONNECT WITH HBB ON SOCIAL MEDIA Follow @HellBoundBlogLinux or GNU/Linux, as it is known, is an open source and free OS. For many people it is a mere OS, and they are stereotyped about it. They think that Windows is good and Mac is better because both of them are worth of some bucks whereas Linux is for free and so, it canât compete with them. But nothing is like that. Here are five reasons that would really make you go for Linux. Go through this post and you will find it is not only a good (or better) OS but it is worth giving a try. Forget not the Android was built on this platform only.1. Fast, stable, flexible and lightIt is said that Linux is the lightest OS that you will ever install on your system. For installing Windows 7 you need a disk space of almost 20 GB, but for installing the latest Linux you need no more than 700 MB, making it the lightest OS in the market. Talking about its flexibility, once you have installed it, suppose on only one of your computers, you can always port it on any of your other computers without any permissions of the copyrights or registering it online plus no degradation will occur in its performance. But hereâs the real thing, as you know that Apple computers are designed in such a way that only Apple OS would run on them. But it left everyone in amazement when Linux was successfully installed and was working properly on the Apple Computers. As it is well noted with many OSâs that after a year or two, most of them slow down, often hang, and lose their stability. But that is never a case with the Linux. It would never lose its stability even after two years of its installation. This, thus, makes it the most stable OS. It also requires a very less RAM for its working. But if you feed it as much RAM a s you would feed to Mac OS or Windows, it wonât run, it will fly, making it the fastest OS in the market.2. SecurityThe security is the most important thing to consider while choosing an OS. Of course, there are many anti-virus softwares to ensure the security of your system but itâs Linux we are talking about. Linux doesnt need any anti-virus software. Thereâre two reasons for this.It has a very few viruses, very-very few.even if, by any chance, a virus gets in your system, there are some particular methods to detect virus under Linux. Soon as you find a virus, you can remove it. Plus, it is said that systems running on Linux are comparably tougher to hack than those running on Mac or Windows.READHow To Calculate Social Media Return On Investment (ROI)?3. Productive, creative and generativeLinux is an open source OS which means that you can always modify and distribute it further. If you are creative enough and want to let your creativity out, go for Linux. Download a Linux , modify it, make it better, and distribute it, without any licence (have I missed the GNU-GPL, General Public License?).4. Open source and free OSAs, mentioned above, open source means the underlying code may be used, modified, and distributed under the license GNU General Public License. All the softwares, utilities, applications, etc. coming under this license are free. Linux is one of them. Other popular open source utilities are VLC media player and Mozilla Firefox.5. Rapid Fire round about its functionsYou might have seen mobile phones these days having multiple home screens. Ever gave a thought what platform are these kinda softwares built on? Oh, yeah! You guessed it right, its Linux! (Linux itself has four desktops!) What platform was android built on? Linux! The servers, almost 90% of them, run on which platform? Linux! What do top 20 fastest supercomputers run on? Linux! What do almost all of the smart TVSâs run on?Linux! What do the video game consoles run on? Linux! W hat is used for controlling stage lighting systems? Linux! What do the worldâs best electronic pianos, synthesizers and music generator modules run on? Linux! There are many such amazing functions of Linux, but are beyond the scope of this article.Linux ConclusionNow that I have covered almost everything about Linux, to make you give it a try, I think that youâre gonna give it a thought of getting Linux on your system. Linux can be downloaded from various Linux distributions, commonly known as distros. Some popular Linux distros are Ubuntu, Gentoo, Mint, Debian and Red Hat. These distros provide you the Linux OS with all the system softwares, utilities, applications, etc. in one single package. If you donât know how to install it, there is an auto install option to make you worry free. This article is written by Bharat Chauhan. He is a coffee-crazy, music-maniac and a budding-blogger. Benefits Of Small Businesses And Developing A Successful...
TESTIMONIAL from Sean Moore, Small Business Developer Congress Heights Community Training and Development Corporation As a Small Business Development Specialist in Ward 8, I understand the importance of small businesses and entrepreneurs in developing a successful and self-sustaining community. Furthermore, I understand that when communities become stagnant and opportunities limited, it is important that those communities see investment from outside forces to initiate change and restore hope and optimism. Accordingly, when I learned that the Mayor had secured a commitment to bring the Wizards and Mystics practice facility and a new arena to serve as home court for the mystics to Congress Heights, I was excited. I saw this investment from the city as a commitment to bringing opportunity to our community and a catalyst to bringing new life to our community by activating the long dormant St Elizabeths east campus. A campus, whoââ¬â¢s gates and inactivity create a void in the fabric of our community. A Major Regulator of the Circadian Rhythm of Core Temperature in Article - 2
Essays on A Major Regulator of the Circadian Rhythm of Core Temperature in Humans by Cagnaccit, Elliotti, and Yen Article The paper "A Major Regulator of the Circadian Rhythm of Core Temperature in Humans by Cagnaccit, Elliotti, and Yen" is a delightful example of an article on medical science. This article basically entails an exploration of the core body temperatureââ¬â¢s circadian rhythms. The basic exploration was to provide evidence of the regulation of core body temperatureââ¬â¢s circadian rhythms to that of the normal cycle of sleep and wake. The researchers hypothesized that night-time melatonin secretion may be concerned with the regularization of the human BTC circadian rhythm. Since Pineal melatonin discharge takes place contemporaneously during the nocturnal hours and is interceded by the commencement of beta-adrenoceptors cells during the night. The research was conducted by performing experiments with a sample of 12 women, usually boarded to light and dark cycle for two days. It was concluded that the core body temperatureââ¬â¢s circadian rhythms were inversely linked to that of m elatonin. The established hypothermic attributes of melatonin are responsible for the propagation of at least forty percent of the circadian BTC rhythmââ¬â¢s amplitude. The exploitation of melatonin levels may thus provide an opportunity for clinical resynchronization of the BTC rhythm under circumstances when BTC rhythms are desynchronized either due to jet-lag or night-shift work (Cagnaccit, Elliotti and Yen 447).à The title was sufficiently descriptive as the article entailed a causal study between the quoted variables. The study was intended to explore the relationship between the melatonin secretion and the circadian rhythms of the core body temperature. The subject was important as due to the rapid industrialization, humans are obliged to work in the night shifts to attain a maximum number of outputs. While the night-time work may lead to the creation of dissociation within the human circadian rhythms and it may also alter or change the phase relationship existing between the endogenous rhythms and environmental time. So the study provides a relationship between the melatonin levels and the core body temperatureââ¬â¢s circadian rhythms that can be utilized in bringing harmony in cases of desynchronized BTC rhythms either due to night shift jobs or jet-lag.Questions1. Whether the sleep and melatonin secretion collectively related to the excessive hypothermic effect?2. Whether sleep depriv ation leads to a reduction in the amplitude of circadian rhythms of the BTC?

In this case, the consequences of the economy are witnessed in the form of fall of revenue and sales, high unemployment and stock prices. The revenue and business sales experience steep decline. This results in non-expansion of the business. Due to the dearth in demand, businesses reports losses and hence strive to cut down on costs that are reducing wages, remuneration, curb in recruitment drives which hinder unemployment. Decrease in GDP means that the firms are not immune to recession and the fact that the firms instigate massive layoffs, companies being bankrupt to name a few. In the US, recession occurred in first quarter of 2008. The economy contracted by 7% which further dipped t o 6% in next quarter. The US economy lost over 16,000 jobs resulting the administration to undertake a serious evasive drive to stabilize the situation (Pissarides, 2013). Hike in financial cost: Lack of unemployment has the adverse effect on the economy of a state. In this case, the government suffers from an outflow of funds. In some states, the government pays the unemployed certain financial doles. Unemployment leads to drop in collective national income and follows with the decrease in production. Hence, the nation not only deals with a lack of national income but also added cost (Pozega et al., 2012). Spending Power: The expenses of an unemployed individual and the family concerned dwindle radically which implies that they would rather save than spend the funds, thereby resulting in an unfavorable effect on the economy. Individualistic effect of unemployment: Barring effects of unemployment over society the same has consequences upon an individual or person. It not only affects a person but also the family concerned and society, by and large. The key aspects are mentioned below. Mental health issues: Mental health of an individual takes a severe hit. Feeling of depression, hopelessness, low self-esteem, etc. crops up which further complicates ones mental aspects. With the lack of income and frustration associated with it, unemployed individuals develop a negative attitude towards life and purpose of life seems to be lost. Dejection, lack of confidence, inadequateness is normal emotions in this regard. The standard of living: During unemployment the antagonism for work and negotiation skills decline resulting in the decrease of standard of living of people with reduced salary and incomes (Milner et al., 2014). Gap in employment: A prospective job-seeker finds the gap in his profile owing to lack of jobs. Employers are apprehensive of recruiting people who had been out of work in spite of no fault of the individual, whatsoever (Decreuse Granier, 2013). Lastly, the unemployed people are not able to use their existing skill-set to use and by the lack of opportunities, the person most likely, loses some of those skills. Conclusion: The above discussion profoundly portrays about different facets of unemployment and the rationale and reason behind that. It has been categorically mentioned on what leads to unemployment and repercussions associated with that. Instances reveal how unemployment had stalled growth and development of industries in the US and UK. The varied causes of employment rise from social and economic elements. The author reflects on long-term effects of unemployment in the parlance of society and individual concerned. In fine, it is seen that redundancy plagues the society and economy, and it should be eradicated efficiently and competently. References: Bevia, C., Corchn, L. C., Romero-Medina, A. (2016). Product Placement in Music Videos free essay sample
In todayââ¬â¢s society, we are bombarded by advertisements everyday of our lives. On average, Americans are potentially exposed to about 600-625 commercial messages in a single day, according to the American Association of Advertising Agencies. These can be in any form, from television or radio commercials, to outdoor billboards, to even the clothes that we wear. Typically, when watching any kind of broadcast media program, we know when the commercial breaks are on and are aware that we are viewing an attempt at getting us to buy something or go somewhere. This, however, is not always the case when advertisers seek to get our attention. A large category for advertising is known as Product placement, where advertisers pay to have products featured during programming or in movies, in addition to the adââ¬â¢s we see every day. Today, these methods have managed to cross into the Music Video platform, using artists to promote certain brands or companies inside their own promotional visuals. We will write a custom essay sample on Product Placement in Music Videos or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page When MTV first broadcast in 1981, they were known for music, not just music videos. The station was the new ââ¬Å"itâ⬠venue for the latest on music and news and opened new artistic doors for a generation. The station even had a ban on blatant marketing plugs in music videos and would blur or edit it out of the video completely. Nowadays, not only is MTV now known for such television gems as ââ¬Å"The Jersey Shoreâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Real Worldâ⬠, they also donââ¬â¢t play many music videos. However, when they do, you realize the ban on products in music videos has been given some heavy leeway. You canââ¬â¢t watch many of the latest popular music videos without suddenly realizing that Kodak Cameras are the beeââ¬â¢s knees, or that you want to go out to the bar tonight to try some ââ¬Å"Revolucion Tequilaâ⬠. Marshall McLuhan said in his book, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, ââ¬Å"Ideally, advertising aims at the goal of a programmed harmony among all human impulses and aspirations and endeavors. Using handicraft methods, t stretches out toward the ultimate electronic goal of a collective consciousness. When all production and all consumption are brought into a pre-established harmony with all desire and all effort, then advertising will have liquidated itself by its own successâ⬠. I feel like product placement falls into what he was talking about and has become one of the more successful ways of advertising a product or service, sometimes even over traditional television spot advertising. In music videos, itââ¬â¢s something that people watch over and over again. It was reported that 57% of young adults in the UK watch music videos on YouTube. When people watch music videos on the internet, they tend to watch them again. Unlike with traditional advertising, product placement in music videos opens the door for the product to be seen repeatedly and in a closer time frame. Unlike advertisements on television that, now with the DVR age, can be fast forwarded and skipped entirely, the target is seeing the product while seeing the music video, which he or she is not so inclined to skip through. Marshall McLuhanââ¬â¢s theory that says ââ¬Å"the medium is the messageâ⬠, meaning people will get the message effectively or not based on what medium is used as a delivery system. This is where his theory of hot and cool media comes into effect. When delivering a subliminal message, which is what product placement does, you have to have a medium that involves higher sensory participation. For example if a song is playing on the radio, you cannot see that the singer is holding a bottle of Fiji Water. They would have to say during the commercial break that they are sponsored by Fiji. That is unless, of course, youââ¬â¢re like Pitbul and throw some Kodak references in your lyrics. To effectively infiltrate your product into your media, there have to be visuals, which is why product placement is effective. The consumer knows theyââ¬â¢re being marketed to, but it still creates a level of intrigue between the consumer and the product. Product placement in music videos was boosted by The Kluger Agency, an Advertising Agency that boasts a non-traditional approach to advertising. Their focus is on strategic partnerships and product placement throughout the music industry. They represent both the artists and the products so that brands can work personally with the musicians, as well as a creative team to come up with the best possible solution for advertising campaigns. The Agency has named this approach ââ¬Å"Brand droppingâ⬠, most times incorporating brands into the song lyrics as well as their accompanying videos. For example, in the music video for ââ¬Å"The Time (Dirty Bit)â⬠by The Black Eyed Peas, ââ¬Å"brand droppingâ⬠fails when BEP member apl. e. ap raps the line ââ¬Å"its gotta be the Apple, Iââ¬â¢m the Mac daddy, yââ¬â¢allâ⬠while showing a Blackberry Tablet (a product that actually does not exist yet, although there were plans to release such a product). While not always effective, in an industry whose profits are being diminished by music pirating, these kinds of product placement solutions for artists create funds for album and music video production. In addition to large corporations integrating their products into music videos, the artists themselves often take time to push their own endeavors. Britney Spears often drops the name of her perfume ââ¬Å"Radianceâ⬠in her music videos, specifically in the videos for ââ¬Å"Hold It Against Meâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Criminalâ⬠. Avril Lavigne is also seen running through the ââ¬Å"Abbey Dawnâ⬠section of a clothing store and putting the clothes on, with Abbey Dawn incorporated into the clothingââ¬â¢s designs. Even Lady Gaga can be seen sporting her own designed pair of Heartbeats By Lady Gaga headphones, a project she embarked on in partnership with the Beats by Dre brand. In addition to putting products in the music videos themselves, advertisers take advantage of the medium used for broadcast. Forty-eight percent of American consumers, according to Nielsen, view online video and advertisers are ready to take advantage of that. With music videos receiving little to no airtime outside of the late night time slots, people have turned to the internet to view their favorite artistââ¬â¢s creations and it shows, with eight out of ten of the Top Viral Videos being music videos. Advertisements prevail on websites such as YouTube, where there is an ad before your video starts, a banner that is shown during the video, a smaller banner above the video, and, most times, links to other videos, which also contain more advertisements. The first video I watched was Lady Gagaââ¬â¢s music video for the song ââ¬Å"Telephoneâ⬠on YouTube. It started with an ad for Mary J. Blidge in American Express Presents: Unstaged, an online series made as part of a partnership with YouTube and Vevo. I noticed there was also a small banner ad to the right of the video above the four promoted Music Videos for the same series that was advertised before the video. The music video itself had tons of examples to pull from in regards to Product Placement. To begin with, the first product to make an appearance was Lady Gaga herself with her song ââ¬Å"Paper Gangsterâ⬠playing in the exercise yard. This was followed by a close up of an inmate wearing Lady Gaga Heartbeatââ¬â¢s headphones, playing another one of her songs ââ¬Å"I Like It Roughâ⬠. From there it went on a tirade of scenes that seemed to be designed to promote ads, such as a close up of her stealing a Virgin Mobile telephone (shown in two separate scenes), wearing coke cans in her hair and coach sunglasses, browsing the dating site Plentyoffish. om on an HP Beats by Dre computer, eating a Honey Bun, using a Polaroid camera (also shown in two different scenes), Miracle Whip (again, 2 different scenes! ), and Wonder Bread. The only two products that did not have any financial contribution were Coke and Wonder Bread, both being additions made by Gaga. Purposely, there was a tie-in between Lady Gaga and all the products that were paid to be put into her video. The laptop used in the video, the HP Envy 15 Beats Edition, comes with headphones and software by rapper Dr. Dre.Monster, the company that makes Dr. Dreââ¬â¢s Beats headphones, makes Lady Gagaââ¬â¢s Heartbeats headphones as well. Also, soon before the release of the video, Lady Gaga was named the Creative Director for a specialty line of Polaroid products. Even the dating website shown in her video had done a promotional contest to win a date with Lady Gaga and tickets to her concert, not to mention Plenty Of Fishs partnership with Interscope Records, Lady Gagaââ¬â¢s record label. Lastly, Gagaââ¬â¢s worldwide Monster Ball Tour was sponsored by Virgin Mobile. This video was an excellent example of ââ¬Å"Brand Droppingâ⬠, due to all the products featured in her video were directly related to her and a product that she was trying to sell, alongside the hosting companies. That is to say, except for Miracle Whip, which has no ties to Lady Gaga, and, in my opinion, opted to be in Gagaââ¬â¢s video to support the new edgier Branding strategy theyââ¬â¢ve been putting out lately with their commercials. The second video I watched was Britney Spearsââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"Hold It Against Meâ⬠video. Again, before the video started, I was shown an advertisement for the Xbox Kinect Game ââ¬Å"Dance Central 2â⬠. Just as with the previous video, there was a banner ad on the right of the video for the same game. In the video, Spears rather shamelessly and spokes womanly, holds up a bottle of her own ââ¬Å"Radianceâ⬠Perfume, applies eye shadow from Makeup Forever, and rises mystically surrounded by 360 degrees of Sony television screens playing her music video repertoire. She also, seemingly out of place with the rest of the video, is seen surfing the website Plentyoffish. com (yes, Britney Spears is also an Interscope artist) on a touch screen Sony Computer. I actually could not count the amount of times the word Sony showed up in the four and a half minute video, between actual use and just flashes of the word Sony, which I thought was unusual seeing as Sonyââ¬â¢s Record company is the second largest of the ââ¬Å"Big Fourâ⬠record companies, behind Universal Music Group, which owns Interscope Records. It has been noted that Spears earned Five hundred thousand dollars in revenue from the Product placement in the video, two hundred thousand coming from Plenty Of Fish alone. For my third and final example, I chose to use an artist that doesnââ¬â¢t have the same level of video views as the big LG and Britney. While Telephone and Hold It Against Me boast 128,498,663 and 70,284,020 views, respectively, Minogueââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"All The Loversâ⬠only claims 11,635,129 views and has been available for the same amount of time as Telephone, and came out months before Hold It Against Me. The difference in advertising was evident right away. Unlike the previous two videos, ââ¬Å"All The Loversâ⬠was not preceded by a commercial. Instead, at the 10 second mark in the video, a banner came up from the bottom of the video promoting a singer named Kari Jobe and her new single ââ¬Å"We Areâ⬠. I did not know who Kari Jobe was before seeing it and out of curiosity, stopped to find out about her. As it turned out, she is a Christian Singer signed to EMI Music, the parent label of Parlophone, which Kylie Minogue is signed to. As far as product placement in the video, there is only one product featured and it is not heavily used in the ââ¬Å"storyâ⬠of the video, and that is BMW. Used more in a visual aesthetic kind of way, the car is only seen releasing white balloons and is parked all along the sides of the road seen in the video. While not the perfect camouflage, the product is incorporated well into the video and blends well with the visual theme of the video. While no one denies Minogueââ¬â¢s success as an artist, she has always been one of moderate success in the United States, and therefore isnââ¬â¢t used the same way as ââ¬Å"Mega Starsâ⬠like Lady Gaga and Beyonce, where their star power gives them the leeway to do the things they do as far as advertising. In conclusion, as we look back on the last decade, Product placement in music videos has definitely come a long way, to being prevalent in many of the videos we see. McLuhan had relevant theories in regard to advertising, even back in a time where we did not have the same technology that we have now that revolutionized how we distribute information and reach mass peoples. Those theories have proven well, even in the category of product placement. Thanks to McLuhan, we can analyze every aspect of a media delivery system and find the best and most efficient way to utilize its strengths and make people aware of products and services in a more streamlined and efficient way. While the thought of being solicited while watching artists we enjoy for their music or showmanship feels like it should be unsettling, the business is growing bigger than ever with brands shelling out 6 figures for about 10 seconds of actual screen time, and the videos are doing better than ever.

Injectronics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 1
Injectronics - Essay Example Automotive maintenance has undergone radical changes since the introduction of electronics as well as mechatronics in vehicles. Rapid introduction of computer controls to operate engines, steering, braking, suspension and other safety and transmission or comfort functions in todayââ¬â¢s vehicles is a huge challenge to both service processes and manufacturing technologies along with failure diagnosis requirements. Many of the modifications in automotive repairs are a result of the initiation of microcontrollers and other electronics in functions within a vehicle. These changes require the remanufacturing companies for such electronic components to improve as significant changes are continually taking place in the industry (Weiland, n.d). Before the advent of electronic controllers, definition of automotive remanufacturing was clear: meaning the renovation of used vehicle parts in accordance with the accepted state so that they can perform similar to new ones. This conventional rema nufacturing may be relevant in future to mechatronics; nevertheless, the definition will be tailored for electronic controllers. ... Currently, vehicles average 35 microprocessors in a vehicle, which are located in various several electronic modules throughout a vehicle and range from simple applications to sophisticated engine controls. The high content level highlights the importance of long-term service plan for electronic control modules. In these vehicles, the service expectations include corresponding electronic modules at least every 4-10 yearsââ¬â¢ service life with most vehicles lasting 15 years; nevertheless, other vehicles have a high service life of up to 25 years or more. Electronic modules present a difficult service challenge due to many factors such as the fact that microprocessor manufacturers and network manufacturers never have the volume requirements in the service life of a vehicle in order to maintain a production line for producing these service components (APRA global connection, 2009). Market and Competitors Most Electronic Control Module (ECM) utilise four to eight custom-produced micr oprocessors to deter competitors and grey marketers capable of replicating the electronic control module. Therefore, electronic components are often produced in a limited manner and usually the first components to be given as end-of-life production. Remanufacturing of electronic modules is possible through the availability of sold units removed from vehicles or cores; thus, injectronic faces the challenges of maintaining a sufficient collection system that maintains constant return of failed units to sustain the remanufacturing program. Moreover, the core is a failed unit, which has been in use within vehicles for several years; therefore, it is likely that the part is not the latest part since many revisions could have

Analysis of Articles Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Analysis of Articles - Essay Example deeply rooted issues of inequity and insufficient freedom of thinking should be discouraged in the educational systems for the overall betterment of the society. The purpose of this article is to highlight the profound importance of multicultural responsive approach in teaching process. Deplorably, many students do not have much access to the learning facilities owing to the unjustified or discriminatory attitude shown towards their cultures and languages. Nieto (2003) has suggested that multicultural education is the only helpful proposal to facilitate all the students on equal terms. There is a big chance that students may start feeling ashamed of their cultural identities and traditions when surrounded by their other fellows who come from rich cultural backgrounds. Deep analysis of this article shows that multicultural approach can make a student proud of his/her heritage, boost his/her self-esteem, and enhance academic performance. It also shows that a multicultural or multilingu al classroom is one where multicultural responsive approach is applied to make the students realize that their backgrounds are long-term assets for them that they can utilize in their learning period and teachers should also know how to teach diverse students in a harmonious environment. The purpose of the article by Villegas & Lucas (2002, pp. 20-32) is to identify that teachers have to deeply analyze and assess themselves to find out if they are actually culturally responsive. Teachers can profoundly influence the students, and if they are free of complexes and biases, they can inculcate the same level of positivism in their students. They have to scrutinize their own cultural backgrounds and beliefs first, to make the students realize the importance of their value system later. In a healthy multicultural teaching setup, teachers are sensitive enough to detect even the slightest conflicts between students that are culture-oriented. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds should be

The Lord of the Rings Essay Example for Free
The Lord of the Rings Essay The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings follows the story of Frodo as he and a group of friends set off on a quest to destroy the One Ring before its evil creator, the Dark Lord Savron, can get it and use it to obliterate Middle Earth. This film has a huge following of fans, which is probably something to do with how well such a wide variation of themes and genres are included in the storyline of the film. Although it is obviously a fantasy film this is clear from the opening sequence in which the different races of Middle Earth are each given a set of rings it has elements of other genres featured as well. The huge battle scene towards the beginning of the film hints towards an action/adventure aspect whilst the friendship between Frodo and Gandolf shows that the importance of trust and companionship will play a key part in how the plot evolves. The film begins with a womans voice telling the story of how the rings began life and goes onto explain who got the rings. Whilst she is talking, we see the action on screen mirroring her words as well as an ancient map, which points out where in Middle Earth the different races of life live. We are then taken to a panning shot of a huge battle scene in which the keeper of the last remaining ring is defeated. From then on filming follows this one ring as its new owner is ambushed in the forest and the ring drops to the riverbed, then as a creature known as Gollum finds it. This sequence of filming ends when Bilbo Baggins finds the ring. The next shot is in the Shire, sixty years later, and here we watch as Frodo meets up with Gandolf and the two friends take a trip through the village Frodo lives in. The locals are preparing for a party and for a while we are oblivious to who or why they are celebrating. This is until banner reading Happy Birthday Bilbo Baggins is raised between the trees. It is exceptionally important in this film that the setting is explained to the audience. This is because the entire world that the story is played out in is completely fictional. To gain such needed explanation of setting, extreme long shots and panning shots were used during the battle scene, which meant the audience could understand the enormous scale of the battle. During the opening voice over section, a map was shown on screen pointing out where each of the races live, this gave the film more authenticity and almost made the audience feel this was a real place, and these creatures were real creatures, which was essential if the film wanted to capture the audiences imagination.

Benefits of Social Networking Sites Essay -- Argumentative, Twitter, Fa
Throughout life, men, women, and youth meet people. These people will either leave a negative or positive effect on us and some will only be in our lives for a short period of time. However, once we start to lose contact with them questions arise and we begin to wonder: What does he/she look like now? ; Where has he/she been? ; How has he/she been? ; Why did we stop talking to one another? ; or what would our relationship be like if I had kept in contact with him/her? Well there is no need to wonder anymore. Ever since the invention of social networking tools, such as, Facebook, MySpace, AIM, Blackberry Messenger (BBM), Twitter, and Formspring, millions of people have been able to instantly notify others concerning their whereabouts, meet/make new friends, reconnect with old friends, blog, play games, and upload videos and pictures. Social networking has become a part of our daily routine and is a trend that will only continue to evolve as we grow old. Before the release of the highly popularized social networking websites, such as, Facebook in 2004, similar forms of social networking tools were used. Brian McConnell, an internet user since 1988, stated that ââ¬Å"he used various sites, known as CompuServe, and Prodigy (McConnell, 2008).â⬠I did some research on the sites he listed and found out that CompuServe was the first online service available in the 1980s and played a major role in the foundation of user i.dââ¬â¢s, email services, picture transfers and etc. As time passed by the second online service became available. It was called Prodigy and allowed users to access a number of different networking sites. Phoenix Agency Roanoke Branch Essay
A parasitic disease is defined as any disease resulting from the presence of any life cycle stage of parasite. Cheyletiella are mites that live on the skin, causing irritation, dandruff, and itchiness. A distinguishing feature of this mite species are the large, claw-like mouth parts. These mites can be found quite commonly on cats, dogs, rabbits, and other species. Though humans are not a natural host for this parasite, Cheyletiella mites can happily live on humans for a while, causing an itchy rash. Cheyletiella parasitovorax, also known as walking dandruff, is a mild dermatitis caused by fur mites in rabbits. Itââ¬â¢s often referred to as walking dandruff as the mite can sometimes be seen moving under the dandruff scales. It is primarily transmitted by direct contact between infested and non-infested rabbits. The mites can survive in the environment for several days, so spread may also occur through contaminated hay or bedding. The presence of fur mites is not always easy to determine. When present, Cheyletiella parasitovorax is most likely to be found on the dorsum and neck of the rabbit. Signs and symptoms include thinning of the hair over the shoulders and back, red oily hairless patches over the back and head, dandruff, and mild-to-moderate pruritus. Rabbits may not show any signs of infestation. Though sometimes Cheyletiella mites can be seen moving about on the skin, in many cases they can be quite difficult to find . Diagnosis is made by identification of the mite. This may be possible with the naked eye or using a magnifying glass in heavier infestations. In other cases it may be necessary to examine hair or skin scrapings under a microscope. Examining dandruff, hairs or scrapings of the skin under the microscope can positively identify the mites or eggs. By combing the coat of an infested rabbit over a piece of black paper and observing the paper for ââ¬Å"moving dandruff is another way a diagnosis is made. There are several different treatments available. The veterinarian usually determines which one is best for the rabbit. Most commonly treatment involves a course of either injections or spot on treatments. Dips in lime sulfur and injections of ivermectin have been used to treat an infestation with these mites. The rabbit should be re-examined at the end of the course of treatment to ensure that the infestation has cleared completely. It is just as important to ensure that the environment is properly treated, in order to avoid re-infestation. This is done by removing all hay, bedding, and toys. Once removed disinfect them thoroughly, then use an insecticidal fog or spray that is effective against Cheyletiella. Some veterinarians recommend preventative treatment with kitten-strength Revolution for rabbits who are particularly prone to mite infestations. Dosage amount and frequency will be determined by the size of the rabbit, along with its medical history. There is no vaccine available to prevent this disease. Cheyletiella is considered to be a possible zoonotic infection. Most people are exposed through handling of infested pets. Infection is typically transient and self-limiting in people because constant contact with infected animals is needed to maintain infection with humans. Occasionally humans exposed to this parasite will develop mild skin lesions. These may be itchy and can form open sores in very severe cases. Anyone handling diseased rabbits should thoroughly wash their hands and use appropriate caution to prevent from being infected. Cheyletiella parasitovorax isnââ¬â¢t a reportable disease. I would educate clients about Cheyletiella by use of posters, charts and pictures. I would also send home brochures and websites for them to read over. These materials would describe the cause, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of Cheyletiella.

The Revolution Of Global Change - 3420 Words
Project Paper Abstract This research aims at looking how the revolution of global change will affect this world in the middle of the century. More attention will be paid to the second revolution; that is, resource management and to a limited extent, the technology. These forces shape our contemporary society and have a significant impact on our lives. As a result, future considerations are important because their future influences might not be the same as today. Our land, water, food, and energy are becoming scarce every day. Much is attributed to the growing human population that causes overpressure on the already limited resources. However, how we protect and utilize them also determines their existence and availability. The changingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Therefore, its focus is to identify these forces at work and the policies that may exist to affect the predicted outcomes. It defines these strategic forces that work to change the world in the future as the Seven Revolutions of Global Change. They include population, resource management, technology, information and knowledge, economics, security, and governance. These factors are expected to have a tremendous impact on how the world would be in the next two decades and beyond. One of the problems that the world will deal with in the future is the inadequate food, water, and energy resources. CSIS identified how these resources are managed as Revolution 2. How they are handled today will significantly determine their availability in the future. Therefore, it calls for sustainable use if we are going to have enough supply to meet the needs of growing human population. Currently, the global human population stands at 6.33 billion (Lambin, Eric and Meyfroidt 3465). It is projected to reach 7.8 billion by 2025 and further, close to 9 billion by the middle of the century. This growth is expected to have social, economic, and political consequences. This research will focus mostly on the resource management and to some extent, the technology. The world population of about 9 billion will ultimately have a great impact on our water, food and,

The Alternative Energy Of Politics Missing - 1271 Words
What is Alternative Energy in Politics Missing? Issues like global warming, pollution, or energy consumption are very mainstream and hot topics in todayââ¬â¢s political world. Changing the United Stateââ¬â¢s energy agenda is something that does not happen overnight, so a lot of governmental and social support is required to make a difference. This means alternative energy and alternative energy sources are a weighty issue in governmental campaigns. Many heads turn toward the candidates on what side of the issue they stand. Many candidates provide a clear stance on topics like wind, solar, or fossil fueled energyà ¾ however, I noticed the nuclear energy industry in politics does not get much attention. Even though the US has heavy private sectorâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Well first I have to answer, what exactly is thorium? Thorium is the alternate energy path that was never taken. Thoriumà based nuclear power is produced from the fission of a specific uranium isotope derived from the father atom, thorium. It has several upsides that uranium or plutonium does not possess. Itââ¬â¢s main advantages include itââ¬â¢s huge abundance on earth, superior physical properties, reduced nuclear waste production, and the lack of weaponization as most of the world is antinuclear. Thorium is a healthier, cheaper, and safer alternative to uranium, and is essential to the future and success of the nuclear industry. Well, itââ¬â¢s crazy the difference a couple of neutrons make. The substance that actually runs a thorium based reactor is a certain isotope of uranium. An isotope is a form of the same element with the same number of protons but differs in the number of neutrons. Uranium has three major isotopes: uraniumà 238, uraniumà 235, and uraniumà 234. The isotope used to power a thorium based reactor is uraniumà 233. It is only produced by blasting the thorium atoms with neutrons, actually a relatively simple process. Now considering thorium is three times more abundant than uranium, only 0.7% of natural uranium is a fissionable isotope. That is the uraniumà 235 isotope, whereas the other 98%, uraniumà 238, has to undergo a strenuous preparation process before it is reactorà ready. It has to be enriched by

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Character Analysis
The main events that unfold in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight predicate themselves on an initial challenge offered by the titular Green Knight: If any so hardy in this house holdes hymselven, Be so bolde in his blod, bayn in hys hede... And I schal stonde hym a strok, stif on this flet, Elles thou wyl dight me the dom to dele hym an other, [barlay]. (Sir Gawain... Lines 285-286, 295-296) These lines create a frame for the type of hero this challenge needs; is there anyone in King Arthurââ¬â¢s court who is sufficiently ââ¬Å"bolde in his blodâ⬠and ââ¬Å"bayn in hys hedeâ⬠able to answer the Green Knightââ¬â¢s call? To this, as the title clearly suggests, Sir Gawain steps up. At this point in the text, two things are clear. First, Gawain establishesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Lines 2257-2258). As explicitly captured by these two lines, Gawain seems entirely unafraid in the moments before the swing of the axe. This state of mind, even though it may be unfairly supplemented by the girdle, technically fulfills the Green Knightââ¬â¢s earlier conditions for the type of person needed for this challenge. However once the ax swings down towards his neck, Gawain momentarily cowers, described as having ââ¬Å"shranke a lytel with the schulderes for the scharp yrneâ⬠(Sir Gawain... Line 2267). The ââ¬Å"scharp yrneâ⬠of the axe causally forces a shift in Gawainââ¬â¢s psychology, as fear dominates in that moment; the Green Knight immediately recognizes this change, claiming ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËThou are not Gawaynââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ , while also adding that when Gawain struck him, he ââ¬Å"nawther fyked I ne flagheâ⬠(Sir Gawain Lines 2270; 2274). These particular lines establish a clear power dynamic between Gawain and the Green Knight. The initial terms of the challenge hypothetically propose equal footing between the twoââ¬âa stroke for a stroke. By referencing Gawainââ¬â¢s cowardice while highlighting his own honor, the Green Knight also undergoes a change in psychology, as he now expresses disappointment and betrayal. These feelings are validated by his position relative to Gawain; he holds the honorable higher ground by upholding his side of the game, while Gawain proves himself momentarily unable to. Health Science Prevalence of Disease
Question: Describe about the Health Science for Prevalence of Disease. Answer: The assignment is to study the prevalence of disease. Gallstones are the main reason behind the inflammation of the gall bladder which ultimately results in the formation of the acute cholecystitis. Any specific symptom is not exhibited by the gallstones. However, the most common symptoms of gallstones are abdominal and biliary pain, vomiting and nausea ( de Mestral et al., 2014). The patient who are suspected of having acute cholecystitis should be immediately referred to a hospital. The first line treatment for cholecystitis includes intravenous fluids, fasting and analgesia. Within 24 to 48 hours after the admission in the hospital Cholecystectomy or surgery of the patient can be done in the case of cholecystitis but an alternative of cholecystectomy is Percutaneous cholecystectomy which is safe and can be very useful for the treatment of those acute cholecystitis patient who are unfit or unable to undergo surgery. However in around 20 percent of the cases of cholecystitis, surger y is needed for the treatment. The Helminthic infection is the main reason behind this biliary disease. The inflammation of the gall bladder is caused by the obstruction of the cystic duct which subsequently results in the acute cholecystitis. If there is a persistence of this type inflammation for long time it may cause perforation or gangrene of the gall bladder (Gurusamy et al., 2013). The diagnosis of acute cholecystitis is done on the basis of the result of the ultrasound scanning. Predominantly the treatment of cholecystitis is surgery but the time of the surgery is under debate. References de Mestral, C., Rotstein, O. D., Laupacis, A., Hoch, J. S., Zagorski, B., Alali, A. Twas the Night Before Year End
ââ¬ËTwas the night before year end, and all through the office, Not a worker was resting, not even the bossesâ⬠¦ The final campaigns were launched on a prayer, A forlorn hope indeed, with the funnel so bare. The sales team all stared at their phones with great dread, Their accounts, they believed, would stay deep in the red. With Mary on LinkedIn, and Billââ¬â¢s mail campaign, And Joeââ¬â¢s hopeless voicemails, defeated and drained. Suddenly the phones, they shrilled with a clatter, I cracked an eyelid, to see what was the matter. Any more effort, it seemed, might be brash, So I checked my data, and threw up the dash. Sure enough, right there in the glow of the screen, A reminder of profits, increasingly lean. When, what on my widening eyes should alight, But a line going up, fast ââ¬â and to the right! One small piece of content, engaging and new Was pushing its limits, and then it broke through! A more rapid rise, I have not before seen, And it went viral on social, with its funny meme. Readers, they loved it, with their clicks and shares, The boss, now all smiley, twirled as he blared: ââ¬Å"Now pictures, now copy, now data, now fiction! Now graphics, now blog posts, and product descriptions!â⬠Across all the platforms, the content did soar, Their following grew, and so did lead scores. Then noises intruded with loud, sudden DINGs And in rushed a fluster of more DMs and phone rings. The Veeps were dressed with suits in their meeting, Which they assumed would consist of much pleading. I replaced their reports, so faded and tattered, And gave them the one that really now mattered. Our CEO winked, his dimples now merry, He looked a lot better and a little less weary. He then drew his mobile from somewhere below, And called in the board to put on a show. Meeting arranged, new slide deck in hand, He stepped up on stage with aplomb and elan. He was sharp, stayed on point, and his joke was a gem. ââ¬ËTwas content from which this confidence stemmed. He showed the new numbers, all well over plan. The board applauded, I too gave a hand. With a gleam in his eye and flick of a wrist, The projections he showed were a most welcome twist. The boardââ¬â¢s questions were tough, but no match for him. The results he now shared were not just a whim. And laying his finger aside of his nose, He gave me a nod to the power of prose. He sprang to his office, to his team gave a whistle, The gloom of last year, he waved off in dismissal. To all, whose jobs now saved from slaughter, ââ¬Å"Yearly bonus to all, and to all a great quarter!ââ¬

Strategic Benefits of Effective Diversity Management The WritePass Journal
Strategic Benefits of Effective Diversity Management Abstract Strategic Benefits of Effective Diversity Management , p.123). This paper aims at exploring the strategic benefits of effective diversity management, how diversity is handled at UKRD Group, and it provides some recommendations on how to enhance diversity at UKRD. Literature Review Benefits of effective diversity management Diversity confers various benefits to companies, and as a result, many scholars suggest that it should be a feature of every aspect of an organisation including employee development, succession planning, reviews, performance management, and rewards. To start with, employees from diverse social and cultural backgrounds bring unique skills, perceptions, and experiences to the table while working in teams. Pooling the diverse skills and knowledge from different cultural and social backgrounds increases employeesââ¬â¢ productivity, and responsiveness to varying conditions (Buhler 2010, p.91). Furthermore, in a diverse workforce, each employee possesses distinct strengths and weaknesses, drawn from their diverse backgrounds and their individuality. If a company ensures effective diversity management is in place, it is possible to leverage the diverse strengths among employees, and compliment the weakness of each employee to make the productivity of the workforce more than the sum of it s parts (Griffin 2012, p.241). By bridging together employees from various backgrounds, businesses can market their products effectively to clients from different ethnic and racial backgrounds. This is because by ensuring the workforce reflects the region within which the business operates, it is usually easy to know the expectations, demands, tastes, and preferences of their consumers. As a result, the company will be able to produce goods/services, which conform to their clients expectations and demands (Thiederman 2008, p.3). Moreover, effective diversity management strengthens the companyââ¬â¢s relationship with a given category of customers by making communication efficient. This is achieved by pairing customers with customer-service representatives from their social or cultural background, making them feel comfortable and satisfied. For example, a company operating in the southwest of the U.S. can employ bi-lingual customer representatives in order to serve Spanish-speaking clients in their native languag e (Guffey Loewy 2010, p.99). Companies that fail to foster diversity in their workforce experience higher turnover rates than those that treasure diversity in the workplace. This is because they portray a hostile work environment, and consequently, make most of their employees to quit. Inability to retain most of the qualified personnel leads to high turnover-related costs, which a company can avoid by embracing diversity. Losing an employee is highly detrimental to the companyââ¬â¢s success because it results to lowered productivity; overworked remaining staff; loss of knowledge and skills; and loss of companyââ¬â¢s time while conducting interviews (Griffin 2012). In addition, when employees are working in groups, diversity enables them to generate more and better ideas. Since the group members come from a host of varying cultures, they often propose creative and unique solutions and recommendations, unlike when they come from same backgrounds (Paludi 2012, p.93). In other words, group diversity eliminates groupthink, which is often witnessed in companies that do not foster diversity in their workforce. Groupthink makes participants in a team to think that their ideas and actions are valid, and those objecting them are either sabotaging their efforts or are uninformed. However, multicultural teams are not affected by such problems since the participants have different perspectives (Aswathappa 2013, p.769). By having a positive approach toward diversity at workplace, a company signals an ethical stand. Consequently, it can build and maintain a positive corporate image. A positive corporate image enables a company to have stronger relationships with existing clients, as well as broaden the consumer base by attracting more customers. A strong consumer base is a direct incentive to a noteworthy competitive edge, and it enables companies to face various challenges in the market such as the recession (Mor-Barak 2011). Diversity is also a key aspect in the creation of effective global relationships. Employing international talent helps in enhancing the companys reputation through outwardly encouraging cultural diversification to a broader consumer-base. If a company hires employees from different countries, it stands a greater chance of expanding and seizing global opportunities by establishing a network of languages and cultures (Guffey Loewy 2010). Additionally, by creating an environment of inclusion and by making commitment to valuing diversity, managers can boost employee morale and motivation. This is because acknowledging and accepting a person regardless of their social or cultural background makes them feel honoured, and as if they a part of the family ââ¬Ëcompany.ââ¬â¢ As a result, they will devote all their efforts toward realization of the organisationââ¬â¢s goals (Abiodun 2010, p.82-87). Managing diversity at UKRD Group UKRD Group is a multi-media company, based in the U.K. The company owns and operates a portfolio of websites, a software-licensing firm, and 16 local commercial radio stations. The company has been ranked number one for three years in a row on the U.Kââ¬â¢s top 100 best employers (Toten 2013). Diversity management is central to the companyââ¬â¢s human resource strategic goals, which include the development of an inclusive and integrated workforce. UKRD Group acknowledges the benefits of a diverse workforce, and it invests much in ensuring that the work-environment is free from discrimination. Moreover, the company endeavours to promote the principles of diversity in all its operations with employees, job applicants, suppliers, clients, recruitment agencies, contractors, and the public (UKRD Group Ltd, n.d.). According to the companyââ¬â¢s CEO, William Rogers, one of the key goals of the company is to build a supportive culture, based on various fundamental standards of behaviour including honesty, fairness, openness, professionalism, and fun. For instance, employees have the liberty to express their disagreement with anything the group purposes to accomplish. However, they are expected to observe fairness and professionalism when presenting their views. Having such a splendid value-based culture portrays a good image of how the company is investing in diversity management. Furthermore, the company does not have a structured human resource department. All the HR functions are outsourced. It has adopted such as strategy in order to encourage the management to have a greater responsibility for their employees. By having a structured HR department, the companyââ¬â¢s management believes that the relationship between managers and employees would weaken, since matters such as discipline m ay be shifted from one department to another, and as a result, they may not be handled effectively. This is a viable strategy toward strengthening of the manager-employee relationship, which is key to the effective management of diversity (Toten 2013). All employees as well as anyone who acts on behalf of the company is required to adhere to the companyââ¬â¢s set principles of equality and diversity. Any sort of unlawful discrimination in the workplace is not condoned, and the company has put in place necessary measures to prevent its occurrence. Specifically, UKRD Group purposes to ensure that no job applicant or employee is subjected to unlawful discrimination based on gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, age, part-time status, or religion. This commitment is taken into account at all aspects of employment such as training, recruitment, promotion and career-development opportunities, grievance handling and the application of disciplinary procedures, and terms/conditions of employment. Because of the evolving nature of the job market and the legislation changes, the company often reviews its policies regarding diversity, and implements relevant changes (UKRD Group Ltd, n.d.). Recommendations In order for the UKRD Group to be at the forefront in ensuring diversity prevails in all its operations, it is necessary for its management to take into consideration the following suggestions. To start with, it should ensure it has a wide recruiting base. This can be achieved by adopting tools such as online job boards, where anyone with an access to the internet can view the job opportunities being advertised by the company. The company should also have a standard evaluation form. By having a standard evaluation form, instances of discrimination will be eliminated, and it allows the hiring team to use the same criteria for all candidates (Thiederman 2008). Moreover, managers of UKRD should explain the benefits of diversity to the employees, and familiarize the new hires with the companyââ¬â¢s culture. For instance, they can clarify the roles the new hires are expected to execute, and explain to them the values treasured in the company (Hubbard 2004, p.85). Conclusion The above discussion has explored the strategic benefits of diversity management, and examined how diversity is handled at UKRD Company Ltd. Since the market is becoming increasingly global, it is necessary for businesses to understand, acknowledge, and embrace diversity in their day-to-day operations, and in their workforce. Effective management of diversity is the key to leveraging the benefits, and reducing the drawbacks associated with diversity in the workplace. Companies reap huge benefits through effective management of diversity. For instance, pooling the diverse skills and experiences from different cultural and social backgrounds increases employees productivity and responsiveness to varying conditions. In addition, when employees are working in groups, diversity enables them to generate more and better ideas unlike when they come from the same social or cultural background. Based on this discussion, it is worthwhile arguing that companies should ensure diversity is well ma naged in order to thrive successfully. Bibliography Diversity Equal Opportunities Statement.
